Individual Therapy

Our programme always starts with an initial assessment to determine therapy targets for each individual client.

If the assessment indicated that therapy is required, sessions are typically done with the speech-language pathologist on a one-to-one basis in a specific work setting which reduces distraction and maximizes focus for learning.

Consequently, parents / care givers are to carry-over and generalise the treatment goals at home.

Group Therapy

After the child has progressed well with individual therapy, group sessions may be recommended.

A group session usually involves 3-5 children of the same language level.

Group therapy can serve several purposes. Most obviously, it is a platform to practice individual speech-language targets in a setting with greater challenges than individual session, but less than the world outside the clinic. Ultimately, group therapy also offers an environment to cultivate appropriate social-interaction skills.

Home & School Visit

Often, home and school visits are suggested when there is a big discrepancy between the child’s progress at home/school and at the clinic. Regular (once a month) home/school visits are also recommended for children who are usingĀ Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

These visits enable the Speech-Language Pathologist to observe the child within his/her home and school environment, and then provide specific recommendations to caregivers and teachers to further increase the child’s compliance, language level and social-interaction skills in the home/school settings.

A meeting with the teachers in charge and parents/ caregivers usually follows within a week’s time after the school visit, to further discuss about the specific strategies, options and plans for the child.
